Spring Newsletter

Dear Music Educator,

I hope all of you had a restful spring break and are making plans for a restful and relaxing summer.  We will continue to send and receive all correspondence electronically.  This includes spring and fall newsletters, audition nomination, and festival selection and billing.  Please inform your colleagues that they can find the newsletter online at www.ilmea.org.  To view or download the newsletter, click on District Info, and then click on District 1. You must have Acrobat Reader installed on your computer to view this PDF file.  If you are aware of a school or music program that would like to become involved in IMEA activities, please share this information with them or have them contact Keith Anderson at keithand921@sbcglobal.net.

The contents of this newsletter are as follows:

  • Junior/Senior Participating School Form

  • Elementary Level Information Request Form

  • MENC Membership Renewal Form

  • Audition selections and location information for all performance groups

  • Fall Festival information - Division Representative information

  • Current conductors for Fall Festival performance groups

  • Information on how to register your school online

Instructions For All Forms

1)   Each high school and junior high/middle school BUILDING with participating students is required to submit a JR/SR Participating School Form and $25.00 fee.  This fee may also be paid online at www.ilmea.org.  EXCEPTION:  a high school district must submit 1 form and 1 $25.00 fee for EACH LEVEL for EACH BUILDING that graduates students with a diploma.  Separate 9th, 10th and/or 11th grade buildings are considered affiliated with their graduating 12th grade building.

2)   Elementary Information Forms are for the purpose of providing information to music teachers in each grade school building.  Many elementary teachers find themselves without information regarding JEM activities because they do not complete the elementary school form. Furthermore, this year elementary school music teachers can register on-line.  There is no fee for elementary school participation. (K-6 only).

3)   Only one set of information will be emailed to each school that submits a school form and fees.  It is the responsibility of the contact person in each music department of every school to disseminate the information that is emailed from IMEA to all music teachers in his/her building.

4)   Information on how and where to access MENC/IMEA membership forms is also included to help you keep your IMEA/MENC membership up to date.  Becoming a member, or maintaining your membership makes each of us an active supporter of music education in our communities, in our state, and in our country.  The professional development benefits of this membership are many and varied.  MENC also has a great web site and a new music education alert e-mail system in place.  You can reach MENC by following the direction on the last page of this document or by calling 1(800) 828-0229.

REGISTRATION/NOMINATION/SELECTION

Welcome to IMEA District online registration.  This program is designed to replace the paperwork normally associated with IMEA District auditions and festivals.  Traditional Fall Participating School Information Packets, including the individual student nomination forms, WILL NOT be mailed UNLESS the school indicates, on the Participating School Form, a need for the paper forms.  It is preferable for each school contact person to instruct the teachers in your building to follow the steps listed on the IMEA web site to complete the RNS (Registration/Nomination/Selection) process. If you have any questions, please e-mail your district president and you will receive a timely response.

To reach District web pages to complete your director and student registration, please click the following link: Remember, you must hold down the ctrl key to activate the link when you click.

www.ilmea.org

You will not be able to access the nomination forms pages until your school has paid the $25.00 participation fee!  So register and pay that fee ASAP. Also, only one summary per participating schools will be accepted.  This means that every division within your school must be submitted on one (1) summary.  Payment should be made in full with one (1) check for all participants.  Failure to implement this procedure will result in the return of your summary and payment.
