SENIOR BAND

AUDITION PROCEDURE

  • Detailed description of audition procedures can be found on this website.  Click on “Division Info” and then click on “Procedures—Winds/Percussion.” You can also find the required etudes and the IMEA scale sheets on this page.
  • Percussionists will no longer audition for “Multiple Percussion.”  Please check the division info page for new audition and book information.
  • Please note that each student should list their preferences for district and all-state selection.  If you put “No” for all-state participation, your student will not be selected!
  • Students may not audition on non-standard instruments such as mellophone, marching baritone, or any others that are not traditionally called upon in contemporary leterature. The sousaphone will be permitted as an alternate for audition purposes only. If the student is selected to the district or state festival it becomes the responsibility of the school to provide a concert tuba for festival performance.

AUDITION PROCEDURE

  • Tonal Skills sheet can also be found on the same page mentioned above. This MAY be used in the audition.
  • Based on the decision made at the 2005 festival, if we need more than one room for a voice part, we will have a prepared music judge and a skills judge. This will ensure that every student passes through the same judges and only one list will be generated to choose students from.
  • We need two judges per voice part. Please contact Leslie if you are interested in judging.

  • NEW FOR 2008-2009:  Violins will audition on excerpts from both I and II parts (they will no longer choose Violin I or Violin II for auditions – will just be Violin).  Karen has emailed the new violin excerpts for this year…if you have not received them, please contact her immediately.

  • We will present a Vocal Jazz Ensemble audition workshop at Normal West High School on September 11, from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.  Students will spend the day working on prepared music, sight reading, and improvisation skills.
