September, 2009

Welcome back to another fun filled year of music education!   A special welcome goes out to those of you who are first time members of District 4.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all – that is what I am here for.

This fall newsletter is to supplement the spring newsletter that is posted on the District 4 web page.  If there have been any changes or updates to that information – you will find it here along with some other reminders.  All the specific audition information is listed on the District 4 web page for your convenience.

Below you will see a table with all of the important dates that you need to be aware of.  Please share this information with all music educators in your district.

Elementary schools – There is no Elementary Information Form and no fee for elementary schools.  You must, however, enter/confirm/update your school information in the online RNS System.

MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION ON LINE.  You cannot access the registration pages until this is completed.  If you have paid your fees and have not updated your info – you will not be able to enter any students until you complete the update.  Please make sure to delete any teachers that are no longer in your district.  If you need to change your primary contact – I have to do it for you.  Contact me and I will make the needed changes.  I can also look up passwords for you.

Watch for an update in the WIU map.  I will wait as long as possible to put out a new map since things are in a constant flux with the construction project on campus.   I will email it to you – and post it on the web page.  The map currently on the web page is from last year.

I will again need money takers for all of the concerts.  If you are available – please email me.  You will be added to my list of very special people (VSP) if you volunteer!

CHORUS AUDITIONS ARE AT PORTA CENTRAL

INSTRUMENTAL AUDITIONS ARE AT PORTA HIGH SCHOOL

AREA UPDATES

Senior Division

    • Deadline to complete online registration is October 1. Make sure to get your summary sheet and the $$$ in the mail to me prior to October 3.  MAKE SURE TO DOUBLE CHECK FOR ALL SIGNATURES.
    • If you are entering juniors and seniors – please pay close attention to the question – will accept assignment in?—(after you say yes to participate in all-state). Please numerically rank the students preference instead of a Y or a N.  This makes it easier for the reps sitting at the table at the Selection Meeting to know just what that student wants/prefers to participate in.
    • To print summary sheet: Click on “Summary Billing Sheet” on the blue tab found on the top of your entry page.  There will be specific instructions on how to print the sheet.  PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS SO THAT I HAVE ALL OF THE INFORMATION THAT I NEED!
    • Double check all of your information so that you don’t have problems further into the process.  Make sure the grade level is correct – make sure the all-state questions are answered correctly – MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENTERED THE CORRECT VOICE PART/INSTRUMENT CHOICE.  (This is our biggest headache on audition day – so double check your info and save us all the time it takes to correct these errors)
    • Make sure that you have the principal signature and the primary contact signature.  I have to have those in order to complete the all-state selection process.
    • Mail the summary sheet and audition fee check to Kim Webster (address on bottom of form) by deadline of OCTOBER. 3.  Checks are made out to IMEA District 4.
    • Band Chairperson – Melinda Reed is now i the Jacksonville School District.  The best way to contact her is via email at ml_reed@hotmail.comThis is a change.
    • If you have a student that is interested in music education as a career – please consider the FMES program.  It is a great opportunity for future music educators.  If your students register for this program – follow the directions on submitting an essay.  If you have any problems at all – please let me know.
    • Senior Chorus - I am so sorry that I omitted a song from the Spring Newsletter.  Please add:

The Storm Is Passing Over - Arr. Barbara Baker

      SATB
