           Greetings all!  Here we are at the beginning of another school year and I hope you are as excited as I am.  What a great profession we are in.  How many people can actually say they have “fun” at work each day.   We get to make music, and share that joy with our students.

           I would like to give a special welcome to any new teachers we have in the District 5.  You will find that participating in the various IMEA activities will give your students the opportunity to perform with other student musicians from this part of central Illinois.  District 5 includes the schools in the following counties:  Macon, Moultrie, Douglas, Coles, Edgar, Christian, Shelby, Montgomery, Cumberland, Clark, Fayette, Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland, Lawrence, Wayne, Edwards and Wabash.

           Click on “5”  (at the bottom of this page is the “Participation School Form” that you can print

           send to the state office with your $25.00 registration fee.

           District 5 not only offers performance opportunities but also sponsors a composition contest for your budding composers, with the winning compositions performed at the “All-State” conference in January.  For those of you with high school students planning to pursue music education, please consider nominating them for the FMES seminars to be held at “All-State”.  Please go to the IMEA website for more information. 

           I would like to thank each of the Area Representatives for their help in running the IMEA District 5 festivals.  They do a tremendous job, and put in many, many hours toward making our festivals so successful. 

           If you know of a “new” teacher in one of the District 5 schools, please contact that teacher, make them feel welcome, and see if they need help with the whole IMEA thing.  Please let me know who those new teachers are as well.

           In closing, it has been a pleasure to serve these past three years as IMEA District 5 President.   Let me know how I can help you.
