The 2 Prepared Festival Selections/Solos (Please read carefully)

Required selections/solos will be sung with a recorded track.   Judges may ask students to start anywhere in a required selection/solo.  The accompaniment tracks will be e-mailed, at the very latest, one week before the auditions to all directors and/or be available on line.  (It is each director’s responsibility to contact a JC Rep if he/she does not receive a copy of the audition tracks.)  The accompaniment tracks will replicate the accompaniments designated in the scores.

An A cappella Major Scale:  Ascending and descending:  i.e. “do re mi fa sol la ti do ti la sol fa mi re do.”  Students may use any prompt sheet, the judge will provide one if necessary.  Initial pitch and tonic chord will be given.  Recommended scales include Bb, D or F Major; however, a student may request another scale.  No humming will be allowed.  Singers may use any other method to sing the major scale.

An A cappella Major and Minor Triad (One of Each): Ascending and descending:  i.e. “do mi sol mi do.”  Students may use any prompt sheet, the judge will provide one if necessary.  Initial pitch will be given.  No humming will be allowed.  Singers may use any method to sing each triad.

Rhythmic Sight Reading:  4 measures in common time containing only whole, half, quarter and eighth note rhythmic values; quarter rests and no syncopation or ties. The singer will be asked to sight read one of four samples.  Singers may use any method to interpret the rhythm, except humming.
