Dr. Allen has chosen to go with a “concept concert” complete with a bit of narration and projected images, based on prehistoric periods: Dinosaurs and Cavemen!

Students will sign up for an audition time when they arrive for auditions. There will be one auditioner in each room. Audition materials may be marked for students.

Vocalists may audition as soprano, alto, cambiata baritone (tenor) or adult baritone (bass). Males may audition on any part. Females may only audition as sopranos or altos. Cambiata baritones are male vocalists who sing the baritone part with an unchanged alto register/voice. Adult baritones are male vocalists who sing the baritone part with a changed adult male register/voice.
All 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are eligible. Students will be required to perform the following skills during auditions:
2 Prepared Festival Selections: “Deo Dicamus Gratias” and “Sleigh Bells”. Both selections will be sung with a recorded track containing vocal support and the initial beat at the beginning of the track. The recordings will be e-mailed one week before the auditions and replicate the accompaniment designated in the scores.
An A cappella Major Scale: Student may use a prompt sheet. Initial pitch and tonic chord will be given. Recommended scales include Bb, D or F Major; however, a student may request another scale. No humming will be allowed. Singers may use any other method to sing the major scale.
An A cappella Major and Minor Triad (One of Each): Student may use a prompt sheet. Initial pitch will be given. No humming will be allowed. Singers may use any other method to sing each triad.
Rhythmic Sight Reading: 2 measures in common time containing only whole, half, quarter and eighth note rhythmic values, only quarter rests and no syncopation or ties. The singer will be asked to sight read one of four samples. Singers may use any method to interpret the rhythm, except humming.

All strings will audition for District Festival. Balanced ensemble, size and musical proficiency will determine how many students are selected. The Junior Level string audition will be over excerpts from the music.

Audition: Festival music excerpts from the first three Festival selections below. All rhythm instruments will audition separately and not as part of a small combo of rhythm instruments. Drum set players will be asked to play a variety of styles at varying tempi (i.e. swing, latin, rock, ballad).
