AUDITION INFORMATION - 2008
(To Download and Print)

- Be sure to complete the on-line entry by October 1. Payment and summary sheets should be postmarked by October 3. Deadlines will not be extended.
- Make sure to enter student information correctly. They will not be allowed to change instrument/voice parts on audition day.
- Auditions for all groups will take place at Highland Upper Elementary School on Monday, October 13. Maps of Highland and the Upper Elementary Campus are available on this site.
- An information table will be set up in the main lobby of the school.
- Auditions begin at 9:00 AM. Please plan to arrive no later than 12:00 noon.
- Upon arrival, students should find their audition location and sign up for a time. Lists will be posted outside each room by 8:30 AM.
- Judges will be released one-half hour after their last student after 12 noon. Once a judge has departed no student will be allowed to audition for that instrument/voice.
- Senior wind and percussion students will again take part in a blind audition. Entry numbers will either be posted outside each room or the room monitor will have a list.
- Audition cost is $6.00 per audition.
- Scales for wind instruments are to be tongued. Three-minute time limit for senior scale sheet.
- Junior Chorus does not audition, but nominations are also done online for these students. Please be sure to include “rank in voicing” as requested on the nomination page…this simply means taking each voice part and ranking your nominees from best to least best.
- A piano and vibraphone will be provided for jazz rhythm auditions. All other instruments should be provided by the student.
- Electronic Devices – IMEA Policy: The student use of all electronic and/or mechanical devices, to include, but not be limited to, metronomes, tuners, cell phones and audio and video recording devices is prohibited in all IMEA audition rooms.
-
Gender – IMEA Policy: The IMEA strives to provide equal opportunity for and create positive experiences for all students. Considering historical choral traditions, and the fact that contemporary composers continue to create new compositions for traditional voicing, vocal range and timbre, the Chorus Division Representatives maintain the belief that part assignments are best suited for students as follows: Soprano/Alto – female voices and Tenor/Bass – male voices.
