Nominee Forms:
Senior Violinists should be submitted as Violin, not Violin I and Violin II.
All nominations will be done online through the IMEA website.
District 2 and 8 Schools: Please note that you need to follow this procedure if your school is not listed under District 2:
A. Log in to www.ilalldist.org
B. Select District 8
C. Scroll to the end of school listings and select "SCHOOL NOT FOUND”. Enter School information. Please enter school name EXACTLY as it listed under District 2.
District 8 President, Nicole Oberg, will automatically receive an email notifying him of a new school request. After he approves it, the state office will be able to activate the listing if the school participation fee is paid.
Four Steps to the Violin Audition
1. Excerpt Sheets
This will include all of the important excerpts that combine sections from BOTH the Violin I and Violin II parts. Up to 4 excerpts will be chosen for the audition.
2. Recording/Adjudication
a. 2 rooms per student: 1 for scales & 1 for excerpts
b. 1 Judge for Scales
c. 1 Judge for Excerpt
d. Scales Score + Excerpts Score = Total Score
e. Score tally sheets will be used in each room and will be combined for a final score, which will then be put into the computer database.
3. Placement into 1st & 2nd Seating (36 Students for SH)
a. 1-8 (1st violin), 9-16 (2"a violin), 17-36 alternating by stand and section (will continue in same manner for Junior Level)
b. Single School Representatives will be added to the end of a section after all the available seats have been filled within the ensemble.
c. We will align audition standards and scoring within the framework of the states standards for scoring. This is not a change from previous policy.
4. All-State
a. Teachers select "VIOLIN" not “Violin 1 or Violin 2” on nominee form and the District 2/8 Orchestra Chairs will designate 1st or 2nd Violin on the form for those students selected for All-State.
b. Ranking does not correlate with seating in district, but it does correlate with whether or not you go to All-State. The students that deserve to go to All-State are going.
c. Top ranked students WILL be selected for All-State.
