Call for Research Papers

Illinois Music Educators Association All-State Conference

Peoria, Illinois January 25-28, 2012

The Research Committee of the Illinois Music Educators Association will sponsor a research poster session in Peoria at the January 2012 IMEA All-State Conference. Research studies exemplifying qualitative, quantitative, philosophical and historical methodologies will be considered for this session. Submissions of “Action research” studies completed by music educators in his or her classroom/rehearsal hall are also encouraged.

A poster presentation format will be employed and the author(s) of each accepted paper will be expected to be present at the poster session on January 27, 2012 to discuss their project with other interested music educators. The author(s) will need to furnish 50 copies of the abstract and 10 copies of the complete report. Traditional posters as well as electronic posters will be displayed. Researchers choosing to bring electronic media need to provide their own equipment and power supply/battery. One or two papers will be considered for the paper reading session held on January 27, 2012. Please indicate whether you are submitting for both the paper and poster session or for only the poster session.

To submit a paper:

1. Prepare either a Word file (in .doc or .docx format) or a .pdf file of the completed study fronted by a 250-word abstract. There should be no identifying information given in the completed study. Label the file with a descriptive term from your title, without your name or other identifying information, followed by IMEA. (ie. SousaBandsIMEA.doc) Please have your cover sheet/identifying information (name, institutional affiliation, address, email and phone, title of the study and name of the electronic file) in the body of the email and send to Dr. Pamela Stover, IMEA Research Chair at pamelajstover@gmail.com

2. If email is not possible, send four copies of the cover sheet, abstract, report and a self-addressed stamped envelope to:

3. Papers submitted for the conference must comply with the “Code of Ethics” published in the Journal of Research in Music Education and on the web at www.menc.org Please disclose if the study has been presented elsewhere.

4. Submissions must be emailed or postmarked by midnight June 1, 2011.

5. A qualified panel will review all submissions. Notification will be made by July 1, 2011. Submissions will not be returned.
