8:00 AM Students arrive. ONU students will greet and guide buses as we arrive.

8:30 AM Rehearsals Begin:Larsen Fine Arts Center

Sr. Vocal Jazz Ensemble - Choir Room

9:15 AM Directors Meeting in Ludwig Student Center, Divisions immediately following

10:00 AM Tour of facilities with all directors in preparation for the Concert Festival

12:00 Noon Break for lunch – students may eat in the Ludwig Student Center Dining Hall

12:50 PM Rehearsals resume

Senior High Jazz Band 1 resumes rehearsal in Larsen Hall room 136.

All other ensembles resume in their starting locations.

Reminders & Miscellaneous Information:

  • Wear casual clothing for rehearsals
  • There will be a nametag waiting for you at ONU - please wear it all day!
  • Know all of your music PRIOR to arriving on Saturday
  • Gentlemen must all be prepared on the solo
  • The concert will be open to the public and free

 

NOTE: Some students will be chosen to re-audition for All-State Honors Vocal Jazz Ensemble after lunch.  Please come prepared, as the audition will be from the music you sing on festival day.

Guest Director’s Biography: Gayle Bisesi (Educator, Professional Vocalist, Composer and Voiceover Artist) has been teaching and singing professionally for over 25 years.  As an educator at Elmhurst College, Gayle is the Director of “Blue” vocal jazz ensemble, teaches private jazz voice lessons and is the Director of Music Admission.  In addition, she teaches private lessons in Chicago, IL at The Bloom School of Jazz.  Gayle is also active as a clinician, and musical life coach offering workshops on “Exploring Your Musical Depth.”

 

As a performer, she has had the honor of sharing the stage with Patti Austin, New York Voices, John Pizzarelli, and Clark Terry, among others.  On the international circuit, her singing has taken her to such places as the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, North Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands, Ontario Jazz Festival, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Scotland, as well as New York City. Gayle is also the recipient of the prestigious Downbeat Award for Best Jazz Vocalist.

 

In the Chicago area, Gayle can be seen performing at various establishments such as the Jazz Showcase, Katerina’s, Andy’s Jazz Club, Park West, Green Mill, Pop’s for Champagne, Chicago Cultural Center, Chicago Center for Performing Arts, Copernicus Theater, Fitzgerald’s, Uncommon Ground, and Beat Kitchen, to name a few.
