Senior auditions are governed by the ILMEA state requirements found on the "divisions" pages of this website. However, there are specific District 1 audition procedures listed below for reference:
District 1 will once again have THREE VOCAL JAZZ ENSEMBLES at the 2017 District 1 Jazz Festival!!!!! Two of these ensembles are performing on the concerts. The third ensemble is a Vocal Jazz LAB CHOIR open to grades eight through twelve!!! Please see the descriptions below:
District 1 Honors Vocal Jazz Ensemble
TWELVE voices will be selected for this ensemble. Voicing will be determined by the clinician, but will most likely be four sopranos, four altos, four tenors and four basses.
The 2016 District 1 Honors Vocal Jazz Ensemble Clinician is Mr. Drew Dahan from Illinois Weslean University. To learn more about Mr. Dahan, CLICK HERE.
District 1 Vocal Jazz Ensemble
Thirty-two voices will be selected for this ensemble. Voicing is the same as past years: eight sopranos, eight altos, eight tenors and eight basses.

District 1 Vocal Jazz Lab Choir
OPEN ENROLLMENT for 9th - 12th Grade Singers interested in learning more about Vocal Jazz and the ILMEA Vocal Jazz Auditions are invited to attend.
•No Experience Necessary!!!
•No Audition necessary!!
•A DIRECTOR NOMINATION is required for participation.
•There is NO OUTSIDE PREPARATION for this group.
All you need is a desire to learn and a pencil!! Everything else will be provided by the clinicians. This group will not perform at the concert, but they will get into watch the District I Vocal Jazz Ensembles perform as part of their experience.
