SENIOR JAZZ 1 BAND

Scott Ninmer, guest conductor

 

Known for his evocative and stylistically-diverse works, Scott Ninmer has established himself as an in-demand composer and arranger in a wide variety of idioms.  Ninmer is a graduate of the University of Illinois in jazz performance and the Manhattan School of Music in jazz composition. In 2014, Ninmer joined "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, where he currently serves as staff arranger.  His music has been performed and recorded by many groups around the world, including the Metropole Orkest, the New Standard Jazz Orchestra, and the Southern California Brass Consortium, to name a few. His music is published through Kendor Music, UNC Jazz Press, McGinty Music, as well as on his website, www.ScottNinmer.com.

Ninmer has won many prestigious awards for his work, including the “2 Agosto” International Composing Competition, the Detroit Jazz Festival Arranging Competition, the Jazz Education Network Student Composition Showcase, the Downbeat Magazine Student Music Awards, the New York Youth Symphony First Music Composition Competition, the United States Air Force Sammy Nestico Award, and multiple ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Awards.

SENIOR JAZZ 2 BAND

Perry Rask, guest conductor


Saxophonist Perry Rask has taught at Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois since 1995, teaching

saxophone, coaching commercial ensembles and saxophone quartets, and directing Jazz Band II. Rask received his BA in music from the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND in 1979 during which time he studied saxophone with Jean-Marie Londeix at the Bordeaux Conservatory in France as part of his undergraduate studies. Rask received his MM from the University of North Texas and completed a DA at the University of Northern Colorado where he was the recipient of the 1994 downbeat Student Music Award in the Blues/Pop/Rock Instrumental Group and Alto Saxophone Soloist categories. Perry is an active performer, clinician, adjudicator, director and guest soloist throughout central Illinois, performing regularly with local musical groups including the Dixie Daredevils, the Hip Replacements, Millikin Faculty Jazz Sextet, Decatur Big Band, and the Decatur Municipal Band.

JUNIOR JAZZ BAND

Amanda Allen, guest conductor


Amanda J. Allen is the Director of Bands at Monticello Middle School and Assistant MarchingBand Director at Monticello High School.  Mrs. Allen holds both a BME and MME from theUniversity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.She conducts four concert bands and a jazzensemble at Monticello Middle School in addition to instruction with the award winningMonticello High School Marching Sages.  Under herdirection, the Monticello Middle SchoolBands have consistently received “Best of Day” honors at the Illinois Elementary SchoolAssociation Organizational Contest.  They have been invited to perform numerous times atthe prestigious University of Illinois SuperState Band Festival.  TheMonticello Middle Bandshave performed twiceat the Illinois Music Educators Convention (2012 Jazz Ensemble & 2015Eighth Grade Band) and in 2016, theMonticello Middle School Jazz Ensemble performedatthe Illinois School Board AssociationConference inChicago, IL.  Inaddition to conferenceperformances,the middle school bands are activelyinvolved in both concert band and jazzfestivals throughout the stateof Illinois. In 2016, Mrs. Allen and the Monticello Middle SchoolBand programwere awarded the Women Band Directors International “Magna Cum Laude”Awardfor an outstanding middle school band program in a small-sized school setting. Additionally, Mrs. Allen was awarded the “Distinguished Service inMusic” Award from theIllinoisElementary School Association, and has received several “Citations of Excellence” fromthe National Band Association.  Amanda J. Allen is in demand as a guest conductor andclinician throughout the state of Illinois.  Additionally, Mrs.Allen is a speaker on various musiceducation topics with engagements at the 2018 Illinois Music Education Convention and various schoolin-services throughout the state.  Amanda J. Allen is a member of the NationalAssociation for MusicEducation, the IllinoisMusic Education Association,the National BandAssociation, and Women Band Directors International.
