In an effort to continually align auditions statewide at the junior and senior levels, the Board of Directors voted at their Summer 2024 meeting to implement a cycle of commissioned etudes for Strings, Winds, Percussion and Instrumental Jazz at the Junior and Senior levels.
Instrumental Jazz etudes will be implemented in the Fall of 2024; Strings, Winds and Percussion etudes will be implemented in the Fall of 2025.
Junior Orchestra Auditions
1. Prepared Selection
D9 Junior String audition requirements will be excerpts from two of the Festival Orchestra Repertoire. All directors need to purchase and supply their own music for the auditions and festival.
2. Scales

2 scales, scales should be played at the speed of 100 b.p.m. and detached bow strokes.

District 9 Senior Orchestra Students will also prepare an additional required selection. For Fall 2023, the additional material will be the Finale from Shostakovich Symphony No. 5.
